How it started

I (Dani) qualified from Norland college in the summer of 2020 with a first-class honours degree in 'Early Years and Development’ and the Norland Diploma. During my final year, I based my dissertation on 'How sleep affects behaviour in under 5s,' which I found fascinating and this led me to wanting to learn more about infant and child sleep. This has allowed me to support families on a deeper level within nannying roles, as well as helping other families that need help reaching their families sleep needs in a gentle way.

Before I studied at Norland, I travelled solo for 18 months; during this time, I was an au pair for 16-month-old twins. I loved the time I spent watching them grow and it was from this experience that I decided I wanted to make nannying my career. I was also an au pair for two children aged five and seven during this time and I loved experiencing a variety of age groups before I started my professional career; as this allowed me to learn how to communicate and engage children depending on their age and needs.

Whilst studying at Norland I worked a summer job in Corfu, Greece for two children aged six and nine. I spent three months providing fun, educational activities, spending days on the beach and in the sea; and accompanying the family to other locations in Europe. During my studies, I was a weekend nanny for two little girls aged one and two. This developed into a full-time role once I graduated from Norland. I am still in regular contact with this family and regularly babysit and take the children on fun days out such as sports matches and soft play.

I have since been a nanny for 2 years in the US travelling between Florida and Colorado, caring for children aged 10 months and two in one role and six and eight in another. Whilst in the states, I decided to use my spare time furthering my education and knowledge and completed both a Gentle and Holistic sleep course. I love being a nanny, and I have found a new passion in infant and child sleep. When retuning to the UK, I worked for a year in London, helping with transition such as potty training and starting nursery. I also completed a Maternity Practitioner course through Norland, as I believe this will assist my knowledge on infant sleep and routines.

The majority of families I have worked for I return to on an adhoc, temporary basis to support the family on vacations or in-between times when their regular nanny is not available. I really value these times to reconnect with the children and families I have worked for and the opportunity to watch the children develop and grow from a different angle.

Dani’s nannies is an avenue in which I can incorporate all aspects of my studies and continue working with children whilst exploring all aspects of child development.

In my personal life, I enjoy being outside, watching live sports and travelling to new places. I believe that Dani’s Nannies will allow me to do what I love as a career but also have time do to things that I enjoy in my spare time; finding a balance that will allow both myself and those I work with to be happy and thrive.
